Entry Requirements

All applicants must be over 16 and have completed their secondary education with five good GCSE’s (or equivalent qualifications) and must be able to demonstrate basic Islamic knowledge, including recitation of the Qur’ān, beliefs and elementary fiqh and practice. An acceptable level of character and behaviour is also expected from prospective students, and will be assessed via references and the interview process.

Tahfīzul-Qur’ān

In addition, applicants must demonstrate the ability to recite the Qur’ān to our required standard.

Age of Applicants: The normal route through this course is entry at 16 and completion at 19. Applicants over 16 may be considered if they demonstrate the potential to complete at 19.

‘Ālimiyyah

In addition, applicants for the ‘Ālimiyyah course are expected to demonstrate a reasonable understanding of the Urdu language.

In cases where this requirement is not met, the Preparatory Course offers a route onto the ‘Ālimiyyah Course.

Age of Applicants: Due to the length and demands of the ‘Ālimiyyah Course, we do not normally accept applicants over 22.

Qirā‘ah Specialisation

Applicants must have successfully completed the ‘Ālimiyyah Course at JRU or its equivalent at another institute. In addition, they must have achieved a minimum grade of 85% in the Tajwīd component of that course.
